Columbus Ohio

Weekend in Review | k.H.a.lifestyle photography | Columbus Lifestyle Photographer

November 14, 2016 By //  by kate

This was the first weekend since we moved into our home in Dublin, and really since we’ve been in Ohio that we didn’t have a list a mile long of unpacking boxes or house projects to get done.

So we decided to explore.

Friday night started with me teaching my youngest brother in law (Curt, you’re also currently my favorite brother in law) how to make a kick ass meal, with only a few slight hiccups.  Also, probably the most exciting moment of my last week, I found a store that carries Los Vasco’s wine. The wine that has long been the house red at my mom’s house, and reminds me of home, so I did what any sane rational woman would do, I bought three bottles. (which, to my credit, was less than the case that was my knee-jerk reaction to finding out here)

Saturday, Jeff woke me up asking if I wanted to try out a new coffee shop on High Street in Worthington, which turned into walking all along High street, drinking coffee and poking through the shops.  Knowing that we didn’t have anything waiting on us at home, we decided to expand our exploring up into Delaware, for more poking around and lunch.

As we drove, I hit up Yelp, (which I must say, is an app that I use on the daily, especially now that I’m exploring in a whole new part of the country) to find us a place for lunch, and we landed at Restoration Brew Worx.

KILLLLLLER good food and great beer. And hard cider.  Jeff and I took advantage of the exploring time to start to nail down details of a new project that we have in the works, as well as stopping every oh, three feet, for me to snap another photo. (Thank God for a patient husband)

Drove a couple hours up I71 to Akron, to photograph the coolest birthday bash I’ve ever seen for a fellow photographer, then back to Cbus.

Sunday brought more exploring with Jeff, this time up to Sunbury, which is a small town to the north east of the city, again poking through small shops before meeting up with my friend Heather and her family for lunch at the Firehouse Tavern for burgers and again, beer. (hey, it’s the weekend)

To wind the weekend up, I had a session at Battelle Darby Metro Park, with two of the most fun people I’ve had the pleasure of working with. They pretty much gave me creative license with their session, but more about that when I post their session’s blog.

Sunday was capped off with butternut squash soup Jeff had waiting, a big pile of blankets, a super smooshy big chair, and a roaring fire in the fireplace.

As far as weekends go, one of the best we’ve had since we moved.

Weekend Wrap Up | A Few Days Behind | Columbus Lifestyle Photographer

November 9, 2016 By //  by kate

So I’m a few days late on the weekend wrap up, but, better late than never.

Last week was landmark here in our household, we had our first Oregon visitor! My friend Alicia came out for the week, to hang out, recharge her batteries, and enjoy a whole lot of doing nothing. Well, doing nothing in the grand scheme of things… We grocery shopped, at what has fast become MY FAVORITE market, Saraga (check them out here) which has pretty much everything that you could ever want or need, had serious Gilmore Girls Netflix marathons, cooked which of course turned into eating, poked around North Market , which is Columbus’ answer to Pike Street Market, and spent time enjoying the fall sunshine at Inniswood Metro Garden.

Alicia and I, along with Mariah of Mariah Ellenwood Photography , took our cameras with us to North Market on Saturday, and poked around the Short North, before hitting up Koki’s for masa, and taking my first shot at home made tamales. (thanks momma, for teaching me, and answering all of my questions via text).

Dinner was a smashing success, the Buckeyes won, and it was a great way to wrap up Alicia’s visit.

This week, we’re back to what has become our new normal, I’m still working on the final unpacking, and starting to (think about) tackling decorating.

Happy Wednesday!

Ally & Brad | Lost Creek Memory Barn | Columbus Wedding Photographer

October 9, 2016 By //  by kate

I second shot with Jenn Daniels a couple of weekends ago, capturing Ally & Brad’s big day. It was GORGEOUS.

The fall leaves were at the height of their colors, the sun was shining, and the Lost Creek Memory Barn was stunning.

Their bridal party was a riot, they were all so much fun together, the laughter and love was perfect.

Weekend in Review | k.H.a.lifestyle photography

August 15, 2016 By //  by kate

Like many of our weekends since moving, this weekend was filled with family time.  Which was a huge part of why we decided to completely uproot our lives and move across the country. (side note, I still can’t believe how many changes there have been this summer, it’s been CRAZY!)

Friday night we drove up to Galion to support our brother-in-law Matt, who’s in his first year as the head coach for Galion Tigers, with my other brother-in-law Curt. I forgot how much fun high school football games are, which is a good thing, as we’ll be at many more this fall, cheering on the Tigers.

Continuing our exploration of our new state, we stopped at Tavern at the Creek, in Galena, for pizza and beer on the way home from the game… It could not have been more perfect, sitting out side, eating pizza, drinking beer, and listening to the crickets  and the water.

Saturday was spent playing with three of our nephews, splashing around in the pool, chasing the dogs, & BBQ-ing with friends & family…. and then naps, because sun, humidity, and water can really take it out of you… Saturday was the first time that we’ve had a big pot luck/getting lots of people together since we moved, and it was PEEERRRFECT.

Dinner was exploring again, to a place Jeff found in Dublin, Los Gaucho’s Taqueria… their al pastor tacos were to die for, and thankfully, it’s an easy drive from the house we just bought. (excuse the crappy cell phone quality photo, as we were both drooling from smelling the tacos the whole drive home, and didn’t want to wait for me to bust out my big camera)

Sunday brought on more exploring, this time to the Columbus Art Museum, and then lunch at Acre, a farm to table place here in Clintonville. We’re very much still in a place that we compare everything to Portland, and even by those lofty food standards this place kicked ass.  (Check out their menu & website here) I opted for a Thai chicken wrap & chai tea, Jeff went for their mole bowl, and we both ordered the sweet corn cookie, which sounds weird, but is amazeballs.

So here we are again on another Monday, getting the week off to a productive start, planning out this week’s shoots, dealing with the paperwork side of things, planning for next weekends road trip, and the following weeks trip to Portland.

Happy Monday y’all!

Brady Bands | Short North | Columbus Lifestyle Photographer

August 3, 2016 By //  by kate

When we moved out to Ohio, one of my main goals was to get out and explore, experience all of the festivals and street markets. At the Powell Street Market this past July, I met Amy, the owner and creative genius behind Brady Bands.

She has the COOLEST collection of athletic wear, and the BEST headbands! Her line is solidly made, super comfy, and crazy stylish. We took our fantastic models downtown to the Short North, and had a ball.

These gals were such good sports, and looked absolutely fantastic.

Stay tuned for more, as Amy builds out her line!

Yessenia | Maternity Portraits | Columbus Maternity Photographer

March 19, 2016 By //  by kate

Yessenia and I met while I worked for one of the major banks. We clicked, it was one of those, ‘oh hey, there you are’ kind of friendships… right off the bat.

She’s a surrogate mama for W & D, two really amazing fellas viagrawithoutaprescriptionusa from New York, and she was willing to come model for me.

Simply put, she’s STUNNING. Pregnancy sure does look good on her.

Country Club Wedding | Columbus Wedding Photographer

March 17, 2016 By //  by kate

When I moved out to Ohio I joined The Rising Tide Society, which if you’ve not heard about them, and you’re a creative, you HAVE. TO. check them out. (You can do so by clicking here)

The Cliffs Notes version is that they are a group of creatives that focus on community over competition. Through the local Columbus chapter, I’ve made some amazing women who are fast becoming friends.

I had the opportunity to second shoot with Mariah Ellenwood, of Mariah about Ellenwood Photography, at a wedding this fall, and OH MAN was it one of the best wedding’s I’ve ever shot at. The light was phenomenal, getting to work with Mariah, a woman that I instantly clicked with, the bride and groom were super relaxed, everything was smooth and easy.
